“Surrealists are ultimately non-conformists.“
- André Breton
The Eyewear of the Stars Since the beginning of what used to be “Hollywoodland”, the fashion of the masses has seemed to be determined by the stars of the generation at hand. Whether it was Coco Chanel, who rose to fame for designing a female silhouette that was more casual and less constricting, to Cary Grant who practically trademarked looking good in a suit, the trend has been that the iconic styles of the decades have been set by the icons. In the late 50’s, Buddy Holly took his eyewear styles to the forefront of the music scene with his thick-rimmed, heavy plastic Faiosa frames (What we label today as retro and vintage frames). Before then, even since 1926, Oliver Goldsmith was designing for the stars like the aforementioned Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Peter Sellers and Audrey Hepburn. Nowadays, as the trend is turning “geek-chic,” we find more celebrities sporting classy looks from designers like Thierry Lasry (Anne Hathaway has been spotted in some of his elegant frames), Claire Goldsmith (who is the granddaughter of the aforementioned Oliver Goldsmith), and… us! Recently spotted on the new TV show, Elementary, was Lucy Liu wearing our Artsee Max design. These frames in Gray Fade are a handmade design, made from Architectural plastic only available in house at Surreal Eyewear. We have various frames that celebrities have worn throughout the years, but some of our favorite frames are ones that are completely original to our store. So come on in and see for yourself- find your own individual style at Surreal Eyewear.
